About us

Hi, there! We are Anete and Tom

Having met on top of the most active volcano in the world, how can our writing be anything but explosive? Whilst living (dangerously) in Indonesia’s cultural capital Yogyakarta, in the shadows of looming Gunung Merapi, we began creating stories together over plates of nasi goreng and endless cups of sweet ice tea.

Ever since, our journeys have carried us around the world – from a literary residency in the Finnish countryside to Central America’s misty highlands, from the rugged peaks of the Balkans to the icy shores of Estonia.

However cliché it sounds, we like to go off-the-beaten-path, choosing public transport over rental cars, hiking and camping over luxury. We like going slow, real slow. Our adventures are not about ticking off destinations, but about immersing ourselves in the essence of places, taking time to uncover its secrets and forging connections with its local communities.

Our background as professional writers sets us apart from most other bloggers. Anete, a journalist, fiction writer and poet from Estonia, has published two books as well as articles in all major publications in her country. Tom, a journalist and fiction writer from Belgium, has regularly contributed to a diverse array of Flemish and international publications.
